Unlike Red Oak, White Oak has a tighter, closed grain that resists moisture and decay.  This makes it an ideal choice for outdoor furniture and even boats.  With a tan-colored appearance, it is often used for the same interior applications as other Oaks.  The most prized wine barrels are constructed of White Oak as well.
